Hawaiian term only or (!) chiefly?[edit]

I came upon this word in a Hawiian-topic article on en:WP. Thinking it must be a misspelling, perhaps of chieftainess, I searched around. Found this article 'Chiefess': A Hawaiian Word C. M. Wise, which includes

Chiefess . . . A female (ethnic) chief. 1862 M. Hopkins Hawaii 18 The converted chiefess, Kapiolani.

I'd say from looking at the search results that of 47 articles at en:WP all but one or two are Hawaiian-topic. While I'm really interested in how to link the term so that well-meaning respellers don't make a mistake (waves), it would be nice to note its Hawaiian resonances. I've taken a stab. Please revise as needed. -- Visviva 14:09, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
