Definition from Wiktionary, the free dictionary
Since when does ecology mean "The natural environment, all living and non-living things that occur naturally on Earth"???
It doesn’t mean that to me and never has. The Shorter Oxford gives
- The branch of biology that deals with organisms’ relations to one another and to the physical environment in which they live; (the study of) such relations as they pertain to a particular habitat or a particular species. Also spec., = human ecology below. L19.
- (Also E-.) The political movement that seeks to protect the environment, esp. from pollution. Usu. attrib. L20.
