this definition of enamor included here is very synonymous with "love"... very similar to its cognates in spanish and french. However, in English colloquial use, enamored has not the same positive connotation of love... it is used to describe a more tentative love... an infatuation... perhaps something that may not be long lasting. One gets the connotation when someone is enamored with something... he is in an early stage of infatuation before true love has developed. It is unlikely that you would be enamored with your wife after 25 years of marriage... but you could be truly in love. I think that this definition needs to mention the more tentative nature of the love defined by the use of this word.
