Meaning in computing[edit]

It rather means "written specifically for a particular environment", for example a native Linux application. 89.219.13.218 15:30, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

killer cats?[edit]

Australia is well known for its dangerous wildlife, and it seems that pets are right up there too. This story tells us that

Feral cats across Australia are estimated to kill two billion native mammals, marsupials, reptiles, frogs and birds yearly.
Pet cats that roam and hunt kill an additional 390 million natives every year.

Can native be used as a noun meaning "native species", or does this use only work because the context was set up by the preceding sentence? If this sense exists, I would like to add it, because otherwise a narrow reading of the sentence would either tell us that pet cats in Australia kill 390,000,000 humans every year, or 390,000,000 oysters.
