@Benwing2: The transitive meaning is to "make (something like an engine, car, etc.) race; to overrun." An example construction might be "svalvolare il motore — to overrun the motor." Imetsia (talk) 21:59, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

@Imetsia Can you find me a citation for this? I specifically looked for 'svalvolare il motore' and all occurrences are of the form 'fare svalvolare il motore', which is an intransitive usage. Benwing2 (talk) 22:12, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

Italian dictionaries include it. Both the Zanichelli and Devoto-Oli include this as their example construction. I was able to find a few transitive uses here: [1], [2], [3], although these are all figurative. Imetsia (talk) 02:25, 20 February 2023 (UTC)
