French: also old slang for pawnbroker?[edit]

A pawned article was once said to be "at my uncle's". John Camden Hotten's Slang Dictionary (1873) adds, "It is worthy of remark that the French call this useful relative ma tante, my aunt." Equinox 10:21, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
