Chinese characters for Vietnamese translation[edit]

The Chinese characters should not be given here for the Vietnamese translation, as they have not been used in Vietnam for nearly a century. They should appear in the etymology section for the Vietnamese word, however. 71.66.97.228 05:39, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's a common method to show Sino-Vietnamese words to show etymology and show the roots. Nobody is trying to force Chinese characters back on Vietnamese. Sino-Korean words are no longer written in Chinese characters either, even if this change is much more recent. There is no convention adopted but writing the Chinese characters in brackets is common, adding wordy etymology to each Vietnamese translation would be cumbersome. --Anatoli 05:53, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
