Etymology of Tagalog tupada

[edit]

@TagaSanPedroAko, Mar vin kaiser: in Leo English's dictionary, tupada is labelled "(Sp)". The word is also spelled topada (attested as early as 1860 in the Vocabulario de la lengua tagala by De Noceda & De Sanlucar). In Spanish, topada is a synonym for topetazo, but it can also refer to a kind of bard's duel in some parts of Mexico. Maybe we can say with some certainty that it comes from Spanish topada, but the pathway of the lexical change is unclear? –Austronesier (talk) 11:21, 29 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
