Usage
[edit]This template creates a declension table for Chagatai nouns. This template should be put in a special declension section, preferrably ====Declension====. This template also automatically adds the entry in the appropriate categories as far as declension is concerned.
Basic usage
[edit]This template has one required parameter which is |tr= i.e. the transliteration of the word in the Latin script. More detail has been provided below.
Parameters
[edit]Possible parameters are as follows:
|tr=- Required. This is the transliteration of the word in the Latin script. Please follow the following conventions for transliteration:
- back vowels: a, ï, o, u (the presence of ï in Chagatai phonology is still a debated matter, but it has been included in case)
- front vowels: ä, e, i, ö, ü
- long vowels: ā, ī, ū
- For loanwords from languages like Arabic, please do not refrain from using letters like ṭ or ḫ where they be necessary (even though these weren't reflected in the spoken language).
- The following is the total list of allowed characters: [aāäeiīıoöuūüpščftṭṣkqḫḥhbjdḍzźžẓgġrlymnwʿ]
|head=- Optional. This is the word itself in the Perso-Arabic script. If not included, the title of the page will serve as the word stem. This parameter should only be included when the rendering of declensions with the title is beyond conventional spelling.
|poss=- Optional. This includes declensions for all the possessive forms of the noun as well. Frequent. Value should preferably be 1 (true also works).
|pr=- Optional. This makes the noun proper (singularia tantum) hence removes the plural. Common. Value should preferably be 1 (true also works).
|st=- Optional. This makes the noun uncountable (singularia tantum) hence removes the plural. Common. Value should preferably be 1 (true also works).
|pt=- Optional. This makes the pluralia tantum hence removes the singular. Uncommon. Value should preferably be 1 (true also works).
|loan=- Optional. This makes the noun a loanword. In loanwords, there is generally a short-long vowel distinction; in Chagatai short vowels were enunciated as fronted and long vowels as back. This is crucial for the correct declension if the word is a loanword. Frequent. Value should preferably be 1 (true also works).
|vza=- Optional. This makes the noun subject to vowel-zero alteration i.e. the final vowel is reduced in some declensions. Uncommon. Value should preferably be 1 (true also works).
