Used for the etymology of shortenings, that is, terms that are the shortened form of another term or expression.
Parameters
[edit]|1=(required)- The language code (see Wiktionary:Languages) for the language that the term is in. All Wiktionary language codes are supported, including those for constructed and reconstructed languages.
|2=(optional)- The term that this term was derived from. The template will automatically remove diacritics and punctuation from the page title, according to the
entry_namesetting in Module:languages, but will keep them in the displayed text. To link to a reconstructed term, such as Proto-Germanic *dagaz, add * in front of this parameter. |alt=or|3=(optional)- Alternate text to display in place of the term specified in
|2=. The displayed term will still link to the page specified in|2=. This can be used, for example, to add parens around a portion of the term. Please do not use this only for adding diacritics or punctuation to the term, as the template can automatically remove these. See above. |t=or|4=(optional)- A short translation for the term.
|sc=(optional)- The script code (see Wiktionary:Scripts) for the script that the term is written in; automatically detected if not specified.
|tr=(optional)- Transliteration for non-Latin-script terms; automatically determined if not given.
|id=(optional)- A sense id for the term, which links to anchors on the page set by the
{{senseid}}template. |nocap=1- Show the initial text with a lowercase initial letter.
|notext=1- Omit the initial text altogether. The first thing displayed will be the link to the term from which this term is derived.
|nocat=1- Don't add the term to any category. Normally the term will be added to a category of the form
[[Category:LANGUAGE shortenings]], based on the language specified using|1=. |sort=(optional)- The sort key to use for categories.
