- @Barytonesis: Templates can be used to place the same text - refing grammatical or lexical features - on many pages. Which is what this does. Is there something else wrong with it? — Saltmarsh. 06:32, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Saltmarsh: What I'm saying is that I don't want this note on many pages; we're a dictionary, not a grammar book. If that piece of information belongs somewhere on Wiktionary, it's in an Appendix. To try and draw an analogy, it would be like creating a template that would say "English past participles do not occur alone: they must be accompanied by the auxiliary "have"", and put it on every entry in CAT:English past participles. That would be useless, and even distracting for the reader. --Barytonesis (talk) 18:27, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- On reflection I agree with you (although it would be 'nicer' to say "I would prefer..." :) ). I will delete the template. I had only used it a few times (it seemed a good idea at the time), unfortunately others have proliferated it - so there's a bit more work! — Saltmarsh. 12:25, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
