Hereunder is a list of Sino-Vietnamese terms for the cultivation path of Islam/Submission (which is actually a description reflecting the soul's absolute devotion and submission to God alone; no ifs, ands or buts about that.). Thanks for reading!
Nota Bene: The acronym F.T.O. stands for Fumiko Take's Orthography. As for the notes on the terms hadith and sunnah, here's this rationale for them; in a nutshell, hadith means a lot of things: narrations, sayings, words, speech, story, opinion, statement, utterance, incidence, discourse, account, tale, et cetera.
Term | Hán tự | Quốc Ngữ | F.T.O. | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
God/Allah | 真主 | Chân Chủ | Cân Củ | The Nôm reading would be Chân Chúa. |
God/Allah | 上帝 | Thượng Đế | Thựâng Dế | An alternative name for God. |
Qur'an | 誦讀經 | Tụng Độc Kinh | Tụng Dậwk King | |
Muslim | 服從者 | phục tòng giả | fụk tằwng zả | Literally means "Submitter" in Arabic. |
wudu | 小淨 | tiểu tĩnh | tỉâw tĩng | See 5:6 for the Qur'anically valid wudu. (The Qur'an Inspector might not be available in the Middle East, sadly.) |
ghusl | 大淨 | đại tĩnh | dạy tĩng | |
tayammum | 乾淨 | can tĩnh | kan tĩng | The original Chinese term 代淨 would be a homonym with 大淨, hence the term 乾淨. |
takbir | 大贊辭 | đại tán từ | dạy tán từ | The takbir is the proclamation اللّٰهُ أَكْبَر (allāhu ʔakbar). The Sino-Vietnamese translation is as follows: Chân Chủ chí đại / 真主至大 |
adhan | 喚禮 | hoán lễ | hwán lễ | The adhan consists, originally, of simply four takbirs followed by the statement لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ (lā ʔilāha ʔillā llāhu) in Arabic. |
fajr | 晨禮 | thần lễ | thần lễ | Dawn Prayer |

maghrib | 昏禮 | hôn lễ | hôn lễ | Sunset Prayer |
ʿišāʾ | 宵禮 | tiêu lễ | tiâw lễ | Night Prayer |
masjid | 禮拜寺 | lễ bái tự | lễ báy tự | Masjid is another word for mosque. |
halal | 清真 | thanh chân | thăyng cân | |
Sacred Month | 聖月 | Thánh Nguyệt | Thắyng Ngwịât | A careful study of the Quran reveals that the Sacred Months should be Zul-Hijjah, Muharram, Safar, and Rabi I (12th, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd months). Per some verses, for example, it wouldn't make sense to have two separate periods, one consisting of a single month and the other consisting of three months, where wronging souls by fighting is prohibited. |
hadith | 聖訓 | thánh huấn | thắyng hwấn | As in "The hadith of God and the hadith of man"; in the case of the latter, only the second character ought to be used. |
sunnah | 聖行 | thánh hạnh | thắyng hặyng | As in "the sunnah of God" instead of anything else; in the case of the latter, only the second character ought to be used. |

Shahada | 證信 | chứng tín | cứng tín | Refers to the profession of faith |
Salah | 禮拜 | lễ bái | lễ báy | |
Sawm | 齋戒 | trai giới | chay zớy | |

Shahada | 作證詞 | tác chứng từ | ták cứng từ | Ibid. |
