Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wiktionary! We notice that you're making changes anonymously. Although this is perfectly all right, we'd like to encourage you to take the time to create an account and sign in to it when editing – it's free and easy. A list of good reasons to do so is at Wiktionary:Why create an account?.

Please note that we are not Wikipedia. If you have edited there, then it won't be very difficult for you to find your way here, but there are a number of differences. For example, Wiktionary is case-sensitive: Kind (German) is not the same as kind (English, Danish, Dutch etc.) Also note that Wiktionary uses no parenthetic disambiguation, so where Wikipedia might have separate articles on Mercury (planet), Mercury (element), and Mercury (mythology), Wiktionary will only have one entry on Mercury which addresses proper noun uses, and an entry on mercury which addresses regular noun uses.

Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Questionable entries will be listed for verification, and, if they fail that process, will be deleted. Also, keep in mind our copyright policies: don't copy material from copyrighted sources here. Such additions will be deleted on sight. Submissions from IP addresses are looked at more closely, unfortunately, so please take a minute to create an account.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question in the appropriate discussion room or ask me on my talk page.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! And thank you for your contributions so far. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 08:22, 27 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

xx

[edit]

Hi. A huge number of people from certain countries create rubbish entries with XX in the name (mainly they don't intend to vandalise Wiktionary, but they are trying to find pornography, you know, XXX stuff), and we had to block some of these editing patterns for this reason. Maltese is possibly the only language on Earth that uses xx, so you got unlucky. You might want to raise this at WT:BP as we could potentially make an exception to the rule to help you to edit. By the way, I think you would have to create an account (user name) for us to do this, because IP addresses are too changeable. If you don't mind doing that, then you can probably create xx without a problem. But if you get stuck then drop me a message. Equinox 17:10, 5 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hey there, I replied on my talk page (User talk:Qehath#Thanks) and tried to ping you, but I'm not sure pings work for IPs, so I figured I'd let you know here. — [ זכריה קהת ] Zack. 21:57, 10 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

għattan

[edit]

What kind of word is the term għattan? I found it in the Chinese Wiktionary, albeit as *ghattan. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 07:48, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

P.S. Have you seen Wiktionary:Requested entries (Maltese)? --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 08:51, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Now how about għads, also *ghads in the Chinese Wiktionary? --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 21:26, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thirteen different spellings from the Chinese Wiktionary: *fahhar, *farrag, *fuhhar, *gamblu, *garraf, *gedded, *ghabra, *ghagin, *ghaqli, *gharaf, *gharrex, *gholla --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 23:57, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
I don't necessarily feel like helping you if you mess up entries as you did at Ġakbu. There's a difference between "James" and "Jacob" in English, there's a difference between "Giacomo" and "Giacobbe" in Italian, and there's a difference between "Ġakbu" and "Ġakobb" in Maltese -- even if they are all originally the same name. 2.202.159.91 05:58, 18 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
My apologies; besides, I found the aforementioned entries in the Chinese Wiktionary as they were, and moved others to proper namespaces. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 06:14, 18 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, okay. I'll see what I can do. 2.202.159.91 06:15, 18 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Right now, I'm data-mining User Shibo77's list of contributions. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 08:20, 18 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Correcting Certain Entries for Maltese in the Chinese Wiktionary

[edit]

You could check out my list of contributions at the Chinese Wiktionary for entries like *cahhad, and make entries with correct spellings for them in the English Wiktionary. Then I could use the correct spellings as a kind of reference, as I can suppress the creation of redirections in the Chinese Wiktionary. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 03:29, 19 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

P.S. You may post any questions or concerns, that you may have, so I may read them later. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 04:23, 19 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

ħawħa

[edit]

What relation does the word ħawħ have with ħawħa? Also, don't forget to check out Category:Requests for pronunciation in Maltese entries. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 04:51, 21 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks; Template:mt-noun should be updated to include collective forms. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 05:18, 21 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes and allow for alternative forms. 2.202.159.91 05:27, 21 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
About the requests for pronunciation, here's Category:Requests concerning Maltese. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 06:05, 22 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
