scot-free

[edit]

Please do not remove Wiktionary links or insert prescriptive language. Wiktionary is not a style guide. It describes the English language as it is used, and does not impose spellings or usage. --EncycloPetey 19:19, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you can reference major style guides that consider these to be misspellings, then they can be so marked. However, we do not label items as "incorrect" when they are in mainstream usage. In that case, if style guides recommend against them, we mark the items as "proscribed" and cite a major reference. --EncycloPetey 19:25, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I have explained Wiktionary policy on the issue to you, and you have responded with arrogance. Please read WT:AGF. The burden of demonstration is on showing that a spelling is considered "incorrect". That's a a positive statement about how the spelling is perceived. Whether or not a particular variant is included at all is separately set by our inclusion policy. --EncycloPetey 19:39, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Spellings found in Holinshed and Johnson generally are not "misspellings". --EncycloPetey 19:42, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
