From Middle High German zuokunft, zuokumft, zuokumpft, from Old High German zuokumft. See zukommen. Cognate with Middle Low German tôkumpst (whence German Low German Tokumst, Tokunft, Tokummst), Dutch toekomst, English to-come, Saterland Frisian Toukumst.
