Usage notes[edit]

  • This form is used in connection with proper nouns.
    Tha antaidh Una a' tighinn a-nochd. - Aunt Una is coming tonight.
  • When referring to the family relationship, piuthar-athar and piuthar-màthar are used.
    Cuin a thigeas piuthar d' athar? - When does your [paternal] aunt come?
    Chan fhaca mi piuthar mo mhàthar airson dà bhliadhna. - I haven't seen my [maternal] aunt for two years.
