Etymology

Borrowed from Late Latin apologia, from Ancient Greek ἀπολογία (apología, a speech in defence), from ἀπόλογος (apólogos, an account, story), from ἀπό (apó, from, off) + λόγος (lógos, speech). In the “expression of remorse” sense, a calque of English apology, and most common in Llanito, considered a proscribed false friend otherwise.
