[edit]Of uncertain origin. Either borrowed from Slovak batoh, or internally derived as a nominalization of the present participle form of a lost verb stem related to bugyolál (“to wrap”), bugyor (“bindle”) and bonyolít (“to entangle”). First attested in 1792.[1][2]
