From belo +‎ -eza, possibly from Vulgar Latin *bellitia, from Latin bellus. May have come to Portuguese through the intermediate of Italian bellezza, or Old Occitan belleza[1][2]. Compare Spanish belleza, Occitan belesa, and Occitan bellesa.
