[edit]Learned borrowing from Middle Mongol ᠪᠡᠯᠭᠡ (belge, “official seal, stamp”), itself from Proto-Turkic *bẹlgü (“sign, mark”). Borrowed into modern Turkish during the Language reform. Doublet of belgi.
