From car + -uță or from Latin carruca, possibly from an original result *cărucă and it's plural *căruce (altered by influence from the diminutive suffix), or alternatively through a Vulgar Latin root *carrucia, *carrucea. Cf. Aromanian cãrutsã. Compare also Italian carrozza.
