Etymology
[edit]From earlier *ʕaŋ-lába, literally meaning "between the cheeks". The first element, *ʕaŋ, is preserved as Somali can (“inner buccal”), while the second element, *lab, is found in Beja miidalab (compare Oromo maddii) and Kw'adza ondalimo.[1]
Cognate with Aweer arub, Rendille h'arrab. Jiiddu arnaw, Baiso erreb, Daasanach erbu plural of ere, El Molo errep, Oromo arraba, Konso arrapa, Afar arraabá, Burji arraba, Hadiyya allabo, Kambaata arrabita, Sidamo arraba, Yaaku erepa plural of ere, Tsamai arrafko.
