From Middle English cheslip(rennet), from Old English cȳslybb, cīeslybb(rennet, literally cheese medicine, cheese potion), equivalent to cheese +‎ lib. Cognate with Middle Dutch kaeslibbe(rennet), Middle High German kǣselap(rennet, acidic liquid).
