From Middle French crique, from Old French crique, from Old Norse kriki (cove, bight), from Proto-Germanic *krikkiz (nook, corner), related to *krōkaz (something bent). Related to English creek, Old Norse kríkr (bend, bay). Probably also related to Old Norse krókr (hook).
