Etymology[edit]

From Middle Welsh kyrhaeð, from Proto-Celtic *kom- + *ɸro-sagyeti (compare Old Irish ro·saig (to reach)). The surface analysis is cyr- +‎ haedd (strive for, obtain).[1] Also see haeddu.
