[edit]Coined by Russian writer Grigorij Aleksinskij as calque of Russian пораже́нец (poražénec),[1][2] also coined by him as a derivation of пораже́ние (poražénije, “defeat”). By surface analysis, défaite (“defeat”) + -iste (“-ist”).
