1. a common spelling error in Dutch verb forms where homophonous forms with d, t or dt are confused

Usage notes

• The error is commonest with verb stems in -d, of which present tense singular forms may end in -d or -dt: hij vindt, je vindt, but ik vind and vind je. It is also common with stems in a vowel or voiced consonant, especially with verbs that do not take the prefix ge- in the past participle; in these, the present tense takes -t, but the participle takes -d: hij verdient, but hij heeft verdiend. All of these forms are pronounced the same.
