[edit]Inherited from Chagatai [Term?], from Proto-Common Turkic [Term?], from Proto-Turkic *ērtä-gä (“to the morning”, dative noun). By surface analysis, erta (“morning”, noun) + -ga (dative suffix).
Cognate with Bashkir иртәгә (irtəgə, “tomorrow”, adverb), Tatar иртәгә (irtägä, “tomorrow”, adverb), etc. (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
