[edit]

explodir (first-person singular present (Brazil) explodo or (Portugal) expludo, third-person singular present explode, first-person singular preterite explodi, past participle explodido)

  1. (transitive, intransitive) to cause/suffer an explosion; to (make) burst
  2. (transitive, intransitive, figuratively) to manifest (itself) suddenly and noisily
  3. (intransitive) to lose temper suddenly and violently
  4. (intransitive) to increase rapidly

Usage notes

[edit]

Historically some authors have considered this verb defective and proscribed its use in certain present-tense conjugations. Nevertheless, modern dictionaries recognize these conjugations, noting their variation between Brazilian and European Portuguese.[1]
