  1. (obsolete, rare) The habit of, or addiction to, theft; thievery.
    • 1790, Edward Umfreville, The Present State of Hudson's Bay:
      they are ſly, cunning, and artful to a great degree; they glory in every species of furacity and artifice , eſpecially when the theft or deception has been ſo well executed as to eſcape detection.
