From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *griδ-(ati-), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *gwr-edh- 'to cry, shout'. Enlarged formation with the Alb. suffix -as/t. Cognate to Lithuanian ger̃das (clamor), gar̃sas (clangor), Old Prussian gerdaut (say).
