għalqa

Maltese
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From the Arabic root غ ل ق (ḡ l q). The sense “enclosure, fenced or immured area” was still attested in older Maltese. The phonetic similarity with Arabic حَقْل (ḥaql) is coincidental.
