[edit]From Proto-Polynesian *fuunaa, variant form of *funa, from Proto-Oceanic *puni (“to hide”), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *buni (“to hide”), from Proto-Austronesian *buɲi (“to hide”). Doublet of huna.
