Usage notes[edit]

Hogy as a conjunction may be followed by hogy as an adverb, e.g. Nem tudom, hogy hogy csinálja. (“I don’t know [literally, ’that’] how s/he does it.”) However, this is sometimes avoided for the sake of euphony: either by omitting the superfluous conjunction (Nem tudom, hogy csinálja; this hogy being the adverb), or by replacing the adverb hogy with hogyan or occasionally miként (Nem tudom, hogy hogyan csinálja). The conjunction can be omitted in the latter case as well (Nem tudom, hogyan csinálja).
