Etymology

[edit]

From Runic East Norse ᛁᛅᚴ (iak) (West Norse ek), from Proto-Norse ᛖᚲ (ek), from Proto-Germanic *ek, from Proto-Indo-European *eǵh₂óm. The breaking of this word shows that it derives from the Proto-Norse variant form ᛖᚴᛡ (ekᴀ), as found for instance on the Söderköping stone (KJ59).
