From Ottoman Turkish قامجی(qamçı, whip), from Proto-Turkic *kamčï (whip), a derivation from *kam- (to beat, strike down). Cognate with Karakhanid قَمْجٖى(qamčï̄, whip), قَمّاقْ(qammāq, to beat).
