From Ottoman Turkish قوزی (quzu, lamb), from earlier *quzï, from Proto-Turkic *kuŕɨ, *koŕɨ (lamb). Cognate with Old Uyghur qwzy (qozï), Karakhanid قُزٖى (quzï̄), and Mongolian хурга (hurga).
