Inherited from Old Swedish løþogher, from Middle Low German lōdich. Cognate German -lötig, Norwegian Bokmål lødig, and English lot (historical unit of weight).

Usage notes[edit]

Before 1855, the purity of silver was in Sweden measured in sixteenths. For example, tolvlödigt silver denoted an alloy of 1216 = 75% silver and 25% copper.
