Etymology[edit]
From Old Portuguese (compare Galician lentella), from Vulgar Latin *lenticla (compare Spanish lenteja, Catalan llentilla), from syncopation of Latin lenticula (“lentil”), diminutive of lēns (“lentil bean”). Compare lentícula, a borrowed doublet; cf. also lenticela.
