Etymology[edit]

From *lund, a zero-grade derivative of lëndë (cf. dëllinjë ~ dullinjë, kërmë ~ kurm etc.). Originally denoting probably a (hollow) tree trunk, identical with Old Norse lundr (grove, tree, wood). More at lëndë.
