From Sanskrit मध्य (madhya, middle) + पद (pada, place). Compare Old Javanese madhyapada (the middle world; Earth).

    • c. late 15th century, Bujangga Manik, folio 28-29, recto:
      "(ha)/at di janma sajagat, biha(ri) basa ṅahanan, masa di madyapada?" Rakaki Bujaṅga Manik ńarasa maneh ditaña.
      “...loyal unto all mankind, in the days afore when thou didst live in the earthly realm?” Then Rakaki Bujangga Manik perceived that he was being questioned.
