From monacillo, which is from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Late Latin monachellus, from late Ancient Greek μοναχός (monakhós, single, solitary).

Influenced from older mónago ("monk), itself from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Late Latin monăchus.
