From Proto-West Germanic *mānini dag; equivalent to mōna +‎ dæġ. Corresponding to Old Frisian mōnendei, mōnadei, Old Dutch *mānendag (Dutch maandag), Old High German mānetac (German Montag), Old Norse mánadagr (Icelandic mánudagur, Swedish måndag).
