Etymology[edit]

From ne- +‎ pateicīgs (grateful), with pateicīgs from pateik(ties) (to thank) +‎ -īgs, with k > c via palatalization (and with pateikties being originally the reflexive form of pateikt (to say, to express), from pa- +‎ teikt (to say)).
