From *ōtčuq ~ očaq "fireplace", possibly a derivation from Proto-Turkic *ōt (fire).

Cognate with Azerbaijani ocaq, Turkish ocak, Crimean Tatar ocaq, Kyrgyz очок (ocok), Southern Altai очок (očok), Uzbek oʻchoq, Tatar учак (uçaq), Chuvash вучах (vuč̬ah), Bashkir усаҡ (usaq), etc.
