- (surgery, ophthalmology) A rare, last-resort ophthalmologic reconstructive surgery used to restore vision in people with severe corneal blindness. It involves replacing the damaged cornea with a prosthetic optical device that is supported by a patient’s own tooth and surrounding bone, allowing light to enter the eye and potentially restore useful vision.
