  1. Abbreviation of phonetic; used in parentheses after an utterance in transcripts to indicate that the transcriber has, to ensure accuracy, represented the sounds heard and that the actual referent may be spelled differently.

      Mr. Nauta: They're -- I think it's U-Storage (ph.). Not -- don't quote me on that U-Storage. I don't know. Life Storage (ph.), I believe. U-Storage, Life-Storage.
