Etymology[edit]
From Middle High German blut, of unknown origin. Cognate with southern German blutt. Plausibly related with Proto-Germanic *blauþuz and/or *blautaz, but the specific form remains unexplained. Borrowing from Middle Low German blôt is highly unlikely.
