From a Slavic language, from Proto-Slavic *prǭdъ. Compare Serbo-Croatian prud (sandbank), Slovene prod (gravel), Slovak prúd (stream, flow, current), Polish prąd (flow, current), Russian пруд (prud, pond).[1]
