English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

post- +‎ pedicel

Proposed by entomologist Brian R. Stuckenberg in 1999 due to disputes about the homology of the structure formerly known as the first flagellomere or third segment of the antenna.

Noun[edit]

postpedicel (plural postpedicels)

  1. (entomology) The third segment of the antenna of a fly, distal to the pedicel.

...at least the multisegmented arista is beyond the pedicel in addition to the large antennomere, and postpedicel is thus ambiguous and lacking in precision.
